Baby Teething Pain Signs

Use Baby Teething Toys to Help Your Baby Cope

Baby teething pain is demonstrated through the symptoms of chewing, crying, and fussiness. Baby teething signs are quite obvious. You can help your baby, and you, get through the teething period by providing baby teething toys such as a baby teething ring (buy rings that you can freeze first before giving to your baby - a cold teething ring will help relieve the swelling and pain).

All babies go through teething pains; typically you experience the pain right along with them. In fact, sometimes the parents seem to suffer more than their baby as they feel helpless to relieve the pain their baby is suffering.

A baby that is experiencing teething pains will be fussy; will cry (sometimes incessantly); and will be mouthing and chewing on toys, furniture, and whatever fits into his/her mouth. Sometimes a teething baby will also feel flushed and feverish and have an upset stomach (often from swallowing a lot of air while crying).

Baby teething pain signs can be confused with colic (both teething and colic have some common symptoms such as crying, fussiness, sleeplessness); but there are also some clear teething symptoms.

Your baby will try to relieve the pain in her/his swollen gums by chewing, but often that causes more pain first, before it helps to 'break' the gums and allow the tooth to pop through.

Teething is often called 'cutting teeth' for a good reason; through chewing, baby’s new, sharp little teeth will make a hole in the gum that allows the tooth to break through (or cut through).

Baby Teething Pain Can be Managed:

There are a number of natural old home remedies you can use that will help you to manage and minimize your baby’s teething pain:

  • Make sure your baby is drinking lots of fluid to help minimize, or eliminate, the potential of fever.
  • Use a clean cotton gauze and rinse with very cold water to press gently against the swollen gum area. You can dampen the cloth and then put it in a plastic bag and freeze it. Then warm up slightly to place on your baby’s gums.
  • Baby cookies (store bought (check the ingredients) or home made). Let your baby 'gnaw' or chew on a cookie. The pressure of chewing will help the tooth break through the gum.
  • Talk to your medical doctor to see if he or she agrees with using a tiny drop of Clove oil rubbed on the swollen gums to relieve pain (too much many make your baby’s stomach sick).
  • Talk to your medical doctor to see if he or she agrees with using a tiny drop of Vanilla extract; to be rubbed gently on the swollen gums to relieve pain.
  • And, of course, use baby teething toys, such as a baby teething ring. Teething toys or rings can be refrigerated or frozen. Both the cold and the chewing will help your baby find relief from teething pain and swelling.
