What are Causes Of Migraine Headaches?

Migraine Headache Triggers

What are the causes of migraine headaches? There are a variety of migraine headache triggers, and more than one cure for migraine headaches. Learn what causes migraine headaches, what to do to avoid them and better cope with the pain and symptoms.

What Causes Migraine Headaches? Headaches 101

The more you know about migraines, the more you can do to avoid them or at least you’ll be able to cope better when a migraine hits.

Nearly everyone will experience at least one, if not several headaches in their lifetime. Unfortunately there's some disagreement among experts about what are the causes of migraine headaches, and how a migraine differs from a normal headache.

This disagreement happens in part because pain is subjective - everyone measures it differently. Generally, however, a migraine has a far more incapacitating impact than your everyday headache. A person may become light or noise sensitive, and will often require bed rest.

Migraine Headache Triggers

Looking at the causes of migraine headaches, there are some commonalities that have been identified. Stress seems to be one thing that sets off a migraine, as does heat, smoking, sleep disruption, and various foods like chocolate and cheese.

Other triggers appear to be allergies - particularly food allergies. And diet can also have an effect: each potassium and magnesium rich foods (such as fruits, nuts and seeds) and see if that helps your headache.

If you can identify your migraine headache triggers or causes, it will be easier to avoid those triggers, to treat the headaches and to avoid and/or elminate the migraines altogether.

Risk Factors for Migraine Headaches:

If anyone in your family has experienced migraines, your risk of experiencing them is much higher, in fact the risk goes up 70%.

Women are at a higher risk (about 17% of women in the US will experience a migraine before they turn 13, while for men it’s only about 6 percent). In individuals over 40 years of age, the number of migraines declines.

Individuals with epilepsy, abnormal cholesterol levels, and Tourette syndrome are at higher risk for migraines too.

Migraine Headache Symptoms:

A severe headache is only one part of the migraine equation. In addition to the painful headache, many people report flu-like symptoms the day before. Other signs of an on-coming migraine include anxiety, depression and general irritability.

Once the migraine is in full force individuals may also see light flashes, have blurred vision, become confused or clumsy, experience nausea, and generally just feel awful. Migraines can last up to a full day before easing.

Cure For Migraine Headache and Remedies

Knowing the causes of migraine headaches is only half the battle. You also need to know what treatments are available to you. There are certainly commercial products you can try (get some insight from your physician as to what might be best).

Bear in mind that what works for someone else’s migraine may not help you at all, but if your physician is well-informed about your migraine’s overall construction your doctor can help you find relief more effectively.

Mild migraines often respond positively to acetaminophen, a healthy dose of water, and some rest in a quiet dark room. Individuals who experience serious on-going migraines may require preventative therapy (usually prescription drugs).

If all else fails, we highly recommend you try Headache Soothe, an all natural homeopathic remedy. This simple yet effect remedy is easy to take - only 10 drops a day - in your mouth or favorite drink.

This special remedy has been formulated to help relieve that constant pounding, tension, and relieve heaviness in your head, shoulders, and neck. It’s also wonderful for stress, fatigue and tension related headaches. It’s FDA registered and even safe enough for children. We also recommend taking it as a preventative if you regularly experience migraines. Always discuss herbal, home remedies with your doctor before taking them.
