Common Eye Infections

For Example: Bacterial Eye Infections

Common eye infections include both viral and bacterial eye infections. Herpes eye infection is viral. Pink eye can be either bacterial or viral. Even common dry eyes can lead to more serious issues (such as tearing of the lining of the eye).Use the best eye infection treatment and remedies.

Eyes are very important parts of your body. You need to take good care of your eyes. Eye infections can happen to all of us.

Often young children are more susceptible because they touch their faces and rub their eyes frequently. However, adults can also get eye infections - some are more contagious than others.

Herpes Eye Infection

Herpes is a viral eye infection and while it will go away with time, it is likely to recur over time.

Treatment for a herpes eye infection is with a doctor's prescription for anti-viral eye ointment or drops. This will not kill the virus but it will stop its spread. A home remedy to prevent the virus from recurring is to stay out of bright sunlight! It is not 100% proven but sunlight appears to trigger episodes. So wear sunglasses if outside in bright sunlight. It can take up to three weeks to clear the infection.

Common Eye Infections: Pink Eye (also known as conjunctivitis)

Pink eye can be either a viral or a bacterial eye infection. Treatment for pink eye depends on the cause; bacterial infection can be treated with natural old home remedies or with antibiotics in severe cases.

Viral infection treatment usually means keeping the infected eye cool and as clean as possible. The pink or red in the eye is a result of enlarged blood vessels in the white area of the eye. It can clear up in one to three weeks.

Common Eye Infections: Blepharitis

Blepharitis infections present with swollen eyelids. It also has a tendency to recur (much like the herpes eye infection). With a Blepharitis infection you can be affected with swelling at the front of the eyelid, near the eyelashes, or affected on the inner eyelid. Common causes are staphylococcus bacteria, scalp dandruff, swelling or infection of the oil glands.

An eye stye can be a complication of Blepharitis; it is a raised bump on the inner or outer eyelid and can be swollen, red, sore and uncomfortable.

Initial eye infection treatment needs to include cleaning and cooling. Using soft contact lens cleaner (a saline solution) to rinse the infected eye will help. Wet, warm compresses on the affected area will also help. If the eye does not improve, visit your doctor for an assessment.

Eye Infection Treatment and Remedies

  • Wash your hands frequently. Keep from touching or rubbing your eyes. Do not share face cloths or towels with others; and wash your towels after use.

  • Use Aloe Vera gel or cream on the outside eyelid only! This can be very effective treatment for styes.

  • Make a warm, wet compress for calming the redness and swelling from Chamomile tea bags.

  • Make a warm, wet compress for calming the redness and swelling from caffeinated black or brown tea. This is thought to help 'draw' the pus out of the infection.

  • Drink water - lots of it. Water helps to flush toxins out of your system.

  • Take a high dose of Vitamin C (time release is best) - it can help your overall health.

  • See your doctor if the infection is accompanied by eye pain and vision impairment.

  • Bathe the eye daily with a homeopathic eyewash that cleanses sticky, irritated eyes. Click here to read more about Conjunct-a-Clear Wash. If you suffer from eye infections on a regular basis consider using Conjunct-a-Clear, a homeopathic supplement that helps relieve common eye irritation.

Common eye infections can be treated and cleared up fairly quickly within a week or two. Be careful with your eyes and take good care of them - you need them.
