Dry Eye Irritation

Use Eye Drops For Dry Eyes

Dry eye irritation can be very uncomfortable; and severe dry eyes can cause eye damage. Find the best dry eye medication; lubricate by using eye drops for dry eyes. What are the causes of dry eyes?

Eyes without enough moisture or lubrication feel dry and scratchy (actually sometimes they also feel watery); this dryness can lead to inflammation of the tissues in the front of the eye. The medical term for dry eyes is keratitis sicca.

Dry eye irritation can be a co-complaint or symptom of conditions like pink eye, styes or other bacterial or viral eye infections.

Symptoms of Dry Eye Irritation

It sounds self-evident but your eyes will feel dry, itchy, scratchy and even swollen. You may feel like you have something inside your eye, and you will want to rub your eye to get it out. Watery-feeling eyes can be caused by over-stimulation of the tear ducts.

Tears are necessary to wash out the eye and keep the eye moist. Tears also contain enzymes to balance, or neutralize, micro-organisms in the eye. You need tears for healthy eyes. If you have dry eyes, it means that tears are not being produced or they are evaporating quickly.

Severe dry eyes can be uncomfortable and sore.

What are the Causes of Dry Eyes?

  • Getting older can cause dry eyes. For women, dry eyes are a condition that can be triggered by menopause.
  • Dry eyes are a side effect of anti-histamines, anti-depressants, blood pressure medicine, birth control pills, and a number of other medicines.
  • Diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus also are known to have dry eyes as one of the symptoms.
  • Air conditioning or a dry heating system in your home, office or car can dry out your eyes.
  • Sitting in front of your computer screen non-stop for many hours can also dry out your eyes, especially if you're not blinking enough (blinking helps to move the moisture around the eye).
  • Contact lens users complain of dry eyes after long term use. This may be as much about the lens solution as it is the contact lenses.

Dry Eyes Remedies and Treatment:

Dry Eyes Treatment

  • The most common treatment is eye drops for dry eyes; artificial tears or drops are often available over the counter. However, eye drops and artifical tears only provide temporary relief and may contain additives that eventually could irritate the eys. Consider an all-natural eye tonic called Vizu-All Plus for Eye Problems.
  • If your problem is related to wearing contact lenses, ask your pharmacist for contact lens re-wetting solutions.
  • Severe dry eyes may require surgery; visit your doctor to discuss what you can do to improve, or eliminate, dry eyes.

Dry Eyes Remedies

  • Increase your Omega-3 oil supplements (fish oils).
  • For menopausal women, add flaxseed oil to your diet.
  • You need to increase your nutrition supplements: increase your essential fatty acids (linoleic and gamma-linolenic). Take evening primrose oil, blackcurrant seed oil, hemp seed oil and borage oil; these are all good sources of essential fatty acids.
  • If you smoke, stop. Smoking is believed to be a cause of dry eyes.
  • Use sunglasses to protect your eyes if they are sensitive to drying out.
  • Hydrate yourself; drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.
  • Use Vizu-All Plus, a natural remedy for dry eye problems.

Dry eye irritation is a relatively common eye problem. If left untreated, it can grow to be a severe dry eye complaint. Visit your doctor to ensure that you are treating your condition appropriately.
