Heart Circulatory SystemImprove Circulation of the Heart, NaturallyThe heart circulatory system is complex; use a heart circulation diagram to understand the flow and understand cardiac circulation better. Use natural ways to improve the circulation of the heart. Strong cardiac circulation is vital for good health. However, many people suffer from poor circulation resulting in numerous diseases and health issues ranging from varicose veins, phlebitis, hypertension, and even kidney damage. One of the most common reasons for inadequate circulation is blocked arteries. The blockage is usually comprised of a fatty substance called plaque. The plaque constricts the arteries and veins, resulting in an impaired flow of blood; which in turn results in poor circulation. The Heart Circulatory System: Heart Circulation DiagramThe main function of the heart circulatory system is to pump blood through blood vessels to the body’s cells; sort of the way a water pump works. So it’s important to keep this function healthy and strong. In the heart circulation diagram below, you can see that the heart is just one big muscle with two sides - one pushes the blood flow out, and the other side pulls the blood back - circulating it through the heart while picking up oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide. ![]() Source: Chung, M.K., and Rich, M.W. Introduction to the cardiovascular system. Alcohol Health and Research World 14(4):269-276, 1990 How To Improve Cardiac CirculationNow that we understand how important it is to have good strong circulation, we need to know how to maintain or improve it. Keep in mind that serious circulation problems need to be treated by a physician with conventional medicine. However, those who are not under a physician’s care can consider following some simple lifestyle/diet changes, as well as taking natural alternative therapies to significantly improve circulation and health. The most important step is to engage in daily exercise. A simple walking routine will do, however, more is better. Also consider adding a little more movement to your daily routines by parking your car further away from the office or supermarket, taking the steps instead of an elevator or escalator, or get up and walk to a co-workers office instead of emailing or phoning. These little steps add up over time. The next important step to improve cardiac circulation is to stick to a low fat, high fiber diet. Many people already know this, but not too many follow this important advice until their arteries are clogged; their cholesterol is sky high or they need medication. Drink about eight glasses of water daily. If you smoke, quit! If you drink alcohol, limit yourself. Prevention is your best bet. Taking a daily low dose aspirin is one option - provided you have the approval of your doctor - as well as taking herbal homeopathic remedies to improve overall health and well being. There are few herbal remedies that can very effective in treating poor circulation without the harmful side effects of prescription drugs - herbs such as Ginkgo biloba, Ginger, and Rosemary.
