Natural Old Home Remedies For Eczema

Eczema Types and Causes of Eczema

Natural old home remedies for eczema are an effective treatment for this skin condition. What are the causes of eczema? Is eczema contagious? There are various eczema types; symptoms range from mild to intense.

Eczema is a common skin condition that has no known cure to-date; it can be uncomfortable, unsightly, and painful with dryness, itchiness, redness, blisters and/or inflammation just a few of the symptoms.

Causes of Eczema: Home Remedies for Eczema:

Causes of eczema are unknown but certain triggers or medical history can result in this skin condition. The triggers vary from genetics, to allergic reaction, stress, poor circulation, and foods. Other triggers are excessive sweating, fungal infections, damp skin that is not allowed to breath well.

Eczema Types - and Symptoms of Eczema - include:

  • Atopic dermatitis is a form of chronic eczema. Often genetic, it tends to run in families and occurs more frequently to those who also have hay fever and/or asthma.
  • Contact dermatitis: a form of temporary eczema. Often related to an allergic reaction or irritation.
  • Dyshidrotic dermatitis: is found on the hands and/or feet. The palms of hands, the tips and sides of fingers, the tips and sides of toes, and the soles of feet develop blisters and become inflamed.
  • Neurodermatitis is dry, itchy skin that may spread and that is often stress related.
  • Nummular dermatitis is found on older adults who often have had a burn or cut or scrape first (causing a weakness of the skin).
  • Seborrheic dermatitis is found on the scalp. A mild condition is identified as dandruff. Dry, itchy skin that can redden and spread if scratched.
  • Stasis dermatitis is found on the lower legs, often of mature adults. It is related to poor circulation and varicose veins. Dry itchy skin that can become inflamed.

A common question that many people have about eczema: "Is Eczema contagious?" The answer is, "No, it is not contagious."

Since the causes of eczema are unknown, there is at present no cure for eczema. However there are commercially prepared treatments available through your doctor. These treatments have some unhealthy aspects and side effects: for example steroid creams, UV radiation, antibiotics, ingredients, such as steroids. We recommend using natural old home remedies for eczema; choose a healthier way to treat this condition.

Old Home Remedies for Eczema:

Soaks:

  • Salt soaks - soaking immersed palms or feet (or other parts of the body that can be soaked) for 40 minutes to an hour in a salt solution of 1/4 salt dissolved in hot water that must be allowed to cool. Try to do two or three times a day for 3 to 4 days as required. Soak only the area with the dermatitis otherwise your healthy skin will become dry and irritated. Use a natural moisturizer from the Aloe Vera plant to keep the area hydrated but not damp.
  • White vinegar soaks - follow the procedure for the Salt soaks.
  • Evening Primrose Oil (the oenothera plant) can help minimize the symptoms of eczema.

Soothing:

  • 100% lavender oil could be soothing to an itchy or inflamed area. However some people will react to the oil - test on the wrist or an unaffected area before applying.
  • Plantain mixed into a paste with olive oil can be soothing.
  • Olive oil alone can be soothing, particularly for eczema in the ears (use a lightly coated in olive oil Q-tip to spread oil in the outer - not inner - ear).
  • Certified organic aloe vera and colloidial oatmeal can help bring relief to itchniesss, flaking and redness, plus it makes the skin softer. Click Here To Read More...

Washing:

  • Washing affected area with a saline solution (and then drying carefully and thoroughly) may be helpful.
  • Wash affected hands and feet with cool water and apply a moisturizer (no water or alcohol in the moisturizer) as soon as possible. Hot water should not be used - it aggravates the condition.
  • After area is cleaned, the application of pure Aloe Vera may be helpful.

Prevention and/or Avoidance:

  • Find out what triggers the allergic reaction - and then prevent or avoid the allergen.
  • Use unbleached, lightweight cotton gloves to cover the hands (or socks for the feet) to prevent scratching, spreading, and susceptibility of the skin to bacteria. The gloves will also prevent contact with other possible irritants, such as inks and paper (in books, magazines, newspapers).
  • Avoid products that contain nickel, such as metal computer keyboards and track pads. Nickel-free diets - the metal (nickel) seems to be a trigger.
  • Alcohol and caffeine free diets.
  • Stress management techniques or counseling.
