Homemade Facial Masks

Homemade Skin Care Products Are Better For You

Homemade facial masks are easy, inexpensive treatments for great skin. Use these FREE homemade skin care recipes and make your own homemade skin care products (including homemade facials) in the comfort of your own home.

Everyone loves to make and use homemade facial masks. They do so many good things for your skin - for just pennies a day. Home made skin care recipes can help to moisturize, exfoliate, or hydrate the skin.

They are a great way to keep your skin looking good and to nourish it with natural, vitamin enriched ingredients that you make fresh - in your own kitchen.

The best part is you know exactly what ingredients are in your homemade face mask - which is great for those with sensitive or allergic skin. In addition, if you massage the homemade facials into the skin before rinsing off, you get additional benefits due to increased blood circulation and cell renewal.

How To Make Homemade Facial Masks?

Homemade facials can be as simple or exotic as you desire. It all depends on what's in your refrigerator and your skin condition and needs. We'll start with a few basic simple recipes that cover the most basic skin needs: dry, oily, and normal skin.

But keep in mind that you can mix and match many of these ingredients depending on what you're trying to accomplish and make a facial tailored to specific needs. The basic ingredients for homemade facials include, but are not limited to:

  • Avocado: which moisturizes and contains vitamins E;
  • Aspirin: which has a powerful anti-inflammatory property that is very important for acne prone skin. It also contains salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid) which is widely used in cosmetics to help exfoliate excess/dead skin cells and unclog pores;
  • Cucumber: which is great for de-puffing eyes and soothing irritated skin and is also good for wrinkles;
  • Lemons & oranges: which contains vitamin C and acts as a natural astringent; making it great for oily, shiny skin;
  • Eggs: Egg yolks tighten and moisturize dry skin. Egg whites tighten oily skin and reduce pores;
  • Honey: which is a great exfoliator and moisturizer. This is good for all types of skin - oily or dry;
  • Oatmeal: which is perfect for irritated or itchy skin;
  • Olive oil: which makes a great natural moisturizer. Use at night to hydrate the skin;
  • Vinegar: which is perfect for burning, itching skin;
  • Yogurt: which has many purposes - such as exfoliate, cleanse, and lighten the skin.

Sample: Homemade Skin Care Recipes

Below are four sample recipes for homemade facial masks. Feel free to play around with the ingredients and mix and match to get the perfect facial masks just for your needs or based on whatever you have left-over in your refrigerator.

For best results, before using any of these facial masks always clean your skin first.

Normal Skin Mask: Normal skin can pretty much use any type of homemade facial mask; depending on how your skin feels that day. My favorite cleansing mask (one that everyone should use from time to time to gentle exfoliate dead skin cells) is the aspirin mask. To make an aspirin mask:

  • Place 2-3 uncoated, plain aspirin tablets into a bowl with a few drops of water.
  • Let the aspirin sit until it begins to breakup and dissolve.
  • Then mix well, adding more water if needed, to make a paste like substance and apply all over the face.
  • Let rest on the face for 15 minutes and rinse off using a wash cloth. Try to buff and massage the skin while rinsing off the asipinr mixture for added benefit.

Dry Skin Mask: Dry skin needs some extra skin 'support'.

  • Mix 4 tbs yogurt, ½ banana, 1 egg yolk, 1 tsp. olive oil, 1 tbs. honey.
  • Apply mask and leave on face for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Massage into the skin before rinsing your skin thoroughly.

Oily Skin Mask:

  • Mix 1 tsp. pineapple juice, 1 tsp. cornstarch, ½ cucumber (puree), 1 egg white, 1 tbs. lemon juice, 1 tsp. milk.
  • Apply this mixture all over the face (avoiding the sensitive eye area) and leave on for 15 minutes.
  • Then rinse thoroughly and apply a moisturizer made specifically made for oily skin.

If you suffer from very oily skin or occasional breakouts, we highly recommend this soothing Botanical Mask. You can use it weekly to draw out impurities and unclog pores. Or use it as an over-night spot treatment for blemishes and red spots.
