Natural Remedies for Psoriasis

What are Psoriasis Symptoms?

Natural remedies for psoriasis are highly effective. What are psoriasis symptoms? Will a picture of psoriasis help diagnose it? Use home remedies for psoriasis instead of commercial psoriasis remedies.

The use of natural remedies for psoriasis is on the rise. Psoriasis symptoms and flare-ups can be frustrating, annoying, and sometimes embarrassing. People with this condition often feel self conscious about their appearance; and are always trying to keep their skin covered.

At this time, there is no magic cure for this disease; even psoriasis medications are not the answer and many have unpleasant side effects. The good news is there are plenty of natural psoriasis treatments that can help reduce even the most annoying psoriasis symptoms.

So if you’re looking for psoriasis remedies or treatment, look no further. Here we’ll discuss some simple home remedies for psoriasis using common ingredients found in your kitchen and some effective over-the-counter herbal/homeopathic creams that can provide the relief psoriasis sufferers so desperately need.

Psoriasis Causes

While psoriasis causes are plenty, one of the main factors in this disease is the increased production of new skin cells and the inability to shed old ones quickly.

This results in a build-up of dead cells (usually in patches). A typical picture of psoriasis will show white patches; usually on the knees, knuckles, elbows, and scalp. These patches become dry, thick, itchy, scaly, and irritated.

Encouraging skin exfoliation is important as is keeping the area hydrated and clean to prevent infection. Swimming or soaking in a tub can help re-hydrate the skin and remove thick, scaly patches.

It's important to try to remove as much of this scaly patch as possible to allow for better penetration of moisturizers, healing creams and ultraviolet light.

Regular soaking (whether in ocean, bathtub, swimming pool, etc.) can help reduce itching. Just be sure never to use very hot water which can increase the itching.

Home Remedies for Psoriasis

Vinegar Compress: Try an apple cider vinegar compress to help reduce inflammation and itching. If you have psoriasis of the nails, or other parts that you can easily soak, mix 1/4 to 1/2 cup of vinegar to about 32 ounces of water. Use more or less, depending on what you are soaking: feet, hands, elbow, or other parts of your body.

Or you can dip a wash cloth in this mixture and apply the compress to the affected areas. According to the Psoriasis Foundation, people have reported great results with this natural remedy for psoriasis.

Baking Soda Compress: You can also use baking soda, instead of vinegar, to reduce the itch. Simply mix 1/4 cup of baking soda to 32 ounces or more of water.

Olive Oil Massage: If you suffer from psoriasis of the scalp, apply slightly warm olive oil to the scalp and massage in lightly. This can help remove scaly patches. Shampoo your hair as usual after this massage and rinse well. You can also mix 8 ounces of olive oil and 8 ounces of milk and pour this into your bath. This is a great soak to help prevent outbreaks.

Wrap: To help retain moisture after a bath, consider applying a moisturizer, then wrap the area with plastic wrap. Keep it on until the scaly patches become soft but don't leave the wrap on so long that the area becomes too wet and infected.

A great water proof, rub proof moisturizer to try is Celazome. This is one of my favorite natural remedies for psoriasis because it really helps to soften up the dry, thick patches of skin.

Psoriasis and Diet: For some people, psoriasis causes are related to a food allergy. They have found that excluding certain foods from their diet helps reduce psoriasis symptoms. Try eliminating all sources of gluten for a week or two and see if your symptoms and flare-ups subside. Gluten is a starch compound and can be found in barley, rye, and wheat.

Natural Remedies for Psoriasis: Healing Cream

One of our favorite over-the-counter (OTC) natural remedies for psoriasis is an effective healing cream called ZENMED® DermCare. This soothing treatment cream contains certified organic aloe vera and colloidial oatmeal that soaks into your skin, repairing damaged cells and bringing relief to itchiness, flaking and redness.

This psoriasis cream is highly effective in helping the skin shed excess cells; giving the skin a smooth appearance and helping the healing of psoriasis.

We are very excited about this newest treatment for psoriasis because it's natural, inexpensive and does not require a prescription. It's one of the most effective home remedies for psoriasis that we've seen in years.

DermCare contains ingredients that help to accomplish the following:

  • stop itching and irritation
  • moisturize dry skin
  • reduce flaking and scaling
  • help to shed excess skin cells

It's important to understand How to Have Healthy Skin? and the differences between Psoriasis and eczema and dry skin; and the differences in treatments such as creams, soaks, facial cleansers and facial masks.

Understanding what skin problems you have, will lead you to selecting the best of the natural remedies for Psoriasis for your skin issues and to curing your problems as quickly as possible.
