Poor Leg Circulation

Leg Circulation Problems are Treatable!

Poor leg circulation is a common problem for many people. What causes leg circulation problems? How to improve leg circulation? Good blood circulation in legs is a key solution of this problem.

Poor blood circulation is a serious issue. Your body needs blood to flow and circulate properly through your body; for your heart to pump efficiently, to keep your body moving; and your brain working and functioning.

What are the Causes of Leg Circulation Problems?

Poor leg circulation can be a symptom of bigger health problems. One cause of leg circulation problems is smoking; smoking constricts the arteries and causes circulation issues.

Poor blood circulation in legs can be a symptom of peripheral vascular disease (PAD), which is a build up of plaque and hardening of the arteries that makes blood circulation difficult and often also results in high blood pressure.

Lack of exercise; sitting for a long time without moving and/or sitting in a cramped location; obesity; pregnancy; ldl or high cholesterol; diabetes; and thyroid problems are among other causes of circulation issues.

Circulatory System Problems: Symptoms of Poor Circulation

Leg circulation problems may develop gradually, rather than quickly. Some symptoms include leg cramps; feet or legs 'falling asleep' (a tingling sensation); swollen and aching feet and/or legs; and cold feet.

In particular, these symptoms will show up when you don't move for a while (sitting at a desk all day long) or during the night, when you are in bed and trying to sleep (have you ever been woken up at night with leg cramps?).

Poor leg circulation can be a signal of very serious conditions, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT is a blood clot that can develop in a vein and that occurs as a result of blocked circulation. It can be a painful, and dangerous, condition that is more often found in older, obese adults.

How to Improve Leg Circulation

Improving your poor leg circulation means that you need to focus on regular and frequent exercise, and on eating a healthy diet.

Additionally, you need to have your blood pressure checked, and ensure that you maintain good blood pressure. You also need to have your cholesterol checked and maintain healthy cholesterol levels.
